On May 6th, The Sound Dunes Swing Ensemble performed at a private event for the Southport Village Community in Mashpee. This was basically a reschedule of a similar event that was originally scheduled for early January but had to be cancelled because of a winter snow storm. Southport Village is one of the most active adult communities in New England and this was pretty clear to all band members based on the amount of dancing that was going on during our performance.
Also performing with us in the community’s Bonvie Ballroom during the event was the a capella singing quartet, “Who’s the Boss”, who performed several upbeat oldtime favorites in 4-part harmony.
Our band and all vocalists had a great time and apparently so did the Southport residents because they have invited us back for another event in November.
Here are a few photos from the May 6th event….

The Festival is run by the New England Folk Festival Association, a cultural and educational, volunteer-run, non-profit organization. The talent of all performers is also provided on a volunteer-basis. The event is known for its varied social dance program, which includes traditional square dancing, international folk dancing, couple dancing, swing dancing, and more. SDSE’s performance followed an introductory workshop on swing dancing and most of the workshop participants and instructors remained with us after their workshop to dance to our musical performance.
