Join us for a the summer outdoor concert at the Dennis Village Green Bandstand. The Sound Dunes, together with the a capella quartet “Who’s the Boss”, are proud to have been invited by the Village Improvement Society of Dennis to perform for their Fourth of July celebration on Monday evening, July 3d at the Bandstand (Route 6A at Bass River Road). Our performance will begin at 7PM.
The band and quartet are working on a program that will have something for “children of all ages”:
— Patriotic tunes and recognition of past and present members of our Armed Forces
— Big band music and vocals from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s for listening to, singing along with, or even dancing to!
— Novelty tunes for the “younger” kids
— A few surprises!
Admission is FREE however donations will be graciously accepted on behalf of The Village improvement Society of Dennis.
We hope to see you on July 3d at the Dennis Village Bandstand.
On April 23rd, The Sound Dunes Swing Ensemble performed at the New England Folk Festival Association’s (NEFFA’s) annual event in Mansfield, MA. This annual folk festival exhibits and aims to blend dance, music, crafts, and food from many places and cultures. This year was NEFFA’s 73rd annual Festival and was a great experience for all ensemble members who participated.
The Festival is run by the New England Folk Festival Association, a cultural and educational, volunteer-run, non-profit organization. The talent of all performers is also provided on a volunteer-basis. The event is known for its varied social dance program, which includes traditional square dancing, international folk dancing, couple dancing, swing dancing, and more. SDSE’s performance followed an introductory workshop on swing dancing and most of the workshop participants and instructors remained with us after their workshop to dance to our musical performance.
Our band had an excellent time entertaining the crowd as you can see from the photos of the event which follow…..
Our ensemble was pleased to be joined at this event by Gabe Gouveia, who had generously donated a good portion of the group’s regular repertoire of arrangements, who played keyboard with us (photo below), and his son Jonathan on bass.
On March 19th, The Sound Dunes Swing Ensemble performed at a private event for the Maplewood at Mayflower Place Senior Living Community in West Yarmouth. This was the second performance by the Sound Dunes for the Mayflower audience, and based on the positive feedback of those in attendance, there may be a third in the foreseeable future. Our band and vocalists had a great time entertaining the residents and, as you can see from the photos of the March 19th event which follow, so did those who were in attendance…..
Clearly, a good time was had by all!

The entrance fee of $20 (payable at the door) goes toward raising funds for the Lower Cape Outreach Council programs – HopeWorks, Pay It Forward, and Smart Money – designed to improve the work lives and earning potential of client households from Harwich to Provincetown.

On Wednesday, February 15th, The Sound Dunes Swing Ensemble performed at the February meeting of the Dennis-Yarmouth Newcomer’s Club. D-Y Newcomer’s are a group of individuals and couples who have settled in Dennis or Yarmouth and are looking to make new friends. In addition to these interesting monthly meetings, the club schedules other Special Events, Group Dine Outs, and Community Theater Outings. The event was held at the Yarmouth Senior Center on Forest Ave in South Yarmouth. Attendees tapped their feet, sang along, and occasionally danced to SDSE music and enjoyed a variety of light refreshments provided by the club.

On February 11th, The Sound Dunes Swing Ensemble performed for a Valentine’s Day Dance event sponsored by Betsy’s Ballroom which is associated with Dance Prints by the Sea. They are a group of dance enthusiasts who also provide dance instruction. The event was held at the Yarmouth Senior Center on Forest Ave in South Yarmouth. The attendees danced to music that included Latin, Fox Trot, Waltz, Disco and other types of Ballroom Music. Band members remarked delightfully that this was by far the “dancingest” group they had ever played for!
